    Description

1952 Topps Mickey Mantle #311 SGC VG 3. In the simplest terms, Mickey Mantle was a man of his age. Just as Babe Ruth had personified the decadence of the Roaring Twenties, Mantle was emblematic of the American optimism that gave the world Elvis Presley and brightly colored automobiles with tail fins fit for a blue whale. We had won the war, rescued western civilization from genocidal totalitarianism, and we felt as if there was no stopping us. America was going big.

The Mick's appearance in the short-printed final series of the fabled 1952 Topps issue has made this card the king of the post-war era, and an example of it currently reigns as the most expensive trading card ever sold. This bold and well-registered specimen presents far better than its technical grade, with an eastward shift in centering the main obstacle to a higher climb up the grading ladder.
