Population three, none finer!
1948 Leaf Stan Musial #4 Rookie PSA Mint 9.
With the best Major League talent answering Uncle Sam's call during the Second World War, and the tightening of domestic purse strings required in funding the military, production of baseball cards was largely back-burnered in the early to mid-1940's. But it would return with a vengeance in the later years of the decade, bringing new and exciting designs to a hobby on the brink of the explosion that the Topps company would soon provide.
Presented is an elite example of the decade's most celebrated breed, a set that borrows from the bold and daring aesthetics of period propaganda posters, anchored by the essential rookie cards of Jackie Robinson and Stan "The Man" Musial. Here we encounter the finest known example of the latter, one of just three to find a home within a PSA Mint 9 slab. We note that fewer than 100 cards from the entire issue have ever matched this rating.
While the navigation of eight decades without a single condition misstep is improbable enough, this was a set plagued by poor registering and awkward factory cuts, but here we find the image crisply rendered at the center of four equally spaced borders. Surfaces are clean, corners are sharp. An investment-grade specimen for the uncompromising collector.
