    Description

1939 Lou Gehrig Farewell Speech Original News Photograph, PSA/DNA Type 1. Baseball's equivalent of The Gettysburg Address, the "Luckiest Man" speech delivered by Lou Gehrig to a weeping full house at Yankee Stadium was an oratory masterpiece that still raises goosebumps nearly eight decades later. This most famous image of the Independence Day farewell finds the dying Iron Horse working up the strength to speak to the sellout crowd and his fellow ballplayers. Babe Ruth's face is visible at far right and, at far left, an American flag flies at half staff. Dimensions 10x8". Fine condition. "Copyrighted by 'The News'" stamping on verso. LOA from PSA/DNA, Type 1.
