1938 Lou Gehrig Handwritten & Signed Letter. This first resident of Yankee Stadium's Monument Park is as celebrated for his legendary durability as for his Hall of Fame talent. Here's evidence of one more physical hardship the Iron Horse endured en route to 2,130 consecutive appearances. He writes, in part, "My trouble was in 2 severely absessed (sic) teeth. I had my 2 teeth extracted and the pain gradually disappeared. it took about 3 years to completely heal." All ink, and closing signature, rates 9/10. Page exhibits original mailing folds. Original mailing envelope, written in Gehrig's hand but unsigned, is included. Gehrig letters are rare and highly coveted. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
