    Description

1938 Enos Slaughter Signed St. Louis Cardinals Contract from The Enos Slaughter Collection - Rookie Contract! Enos Slaughter's big league dreams took shape when he was noticed during a tryout for the St. Louis Cardinals in the fall of 1934 in Greensboro, North Carolina. Before he made his mad dash and was a part of ten All-Star Games, Slaughter was like any aspiring ballplayer. He had to persevere through the minors and prove his worth.

In 1938, Slaughter settled into the Cardinals' outfield and enjoyed great success. This contract paid Slaughter four hundred dollars a month for realizing his dream. It was signed in January and is his true rookie contract. A second contract, which gave him two hundred dollars more, was signed May 1. Branch Rickey and Slaughter signed inside in 10/10 black ink as did a witness. Letter of provenance from Slaughter family. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
