    Ultra-rare single-season format!

1938 Casey Stengel Game Worn Boston Bees Jersey, MEARS A9--Photo Matched!
The Hall of Fame manager would preside over the greatest era of dominance in American sports history, winning ten pennants and seven World Championships between 1949 and 1960 as skipper of the New York Yankees, but the offered garment found the Ol' Perfesser at the start of a decidedly different stage of his lengthy Major League career. Stengel would barely coax a winning season out of his Braves in 1938 before four straight seventh-place finishes, and ultimately an unceremonious dismissal midway through the 1943 season.

But the elite significance of the garment's original owner, and its exceedingly rare single-season format, turn this pinstriped home white flannel into a treasure of our national pastime. Gone are the artful Native American-influenced designs abandoned during the franchise's brief flirtation with the "Bees" moniker (1936-40), replaced with a bold felt letter "B" over the heart and a similarly constructed number "31" on verso. Interior collar is tagged "Horace Partridge Co. Athletic Goods" above an embroidered "Stengel" swatch.

The octogenarian garment survives in 100% original and unaltered condition, losing its single point in MEARS grading to a half-inch of fabric separation to the logo "B" and a few small, inconsequential moth holes. Certainly the jersey's condition is far superior to the vast majority of its contemporary survivors from this era of Major League history, well suited for inclusion in the most discriminating of private collections. Images of Stengel wearing this jersey appear in the MEARS paperwork. LOA from MEARS, A9. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
