    Description

1937 Ted Williams San Diego Padres Minor League Original News Photograph, PSA/DNA Type 1. Before he was known as the greatest hitter of all time, Ted Williams grew up in San Diego. It was there he crafted his game and became a sought after prospect. The St. Louis Cardinals and New York Yankees tried vehemently to sign him out of high school but Williams' mother thought it was best to have him around a little longer to mature. Williams eventually signed with the San Diego Padres of the Pacific Coast League.

Two years in the Pacific Coast League resulted in further success for the teenager. In 1937, Williams slugged 23 homers and hit at a .291 clip. This outstanding 7x9" photograph captures Teddy Ballgame during his second season as a professional ballplayer. Williams is in his San Diego uniform and outstretched securing a baseball. The reverse of this photo has a caption affixed, "Apr 15 1937" date stamp and "Associated Press Photo" stamp. One light crease is found on the top middle area. Easily, one of the earliest photos of Williams before his arrived in Boston. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA, Type 1.
