1933 Sport Kings Baseball Babe Ruth #2 PSA NM 7. "Never let the fear of striking out get in your way," said Babe Ruth. And he didn't. Babe Ruth struck out a lot for his time, 1,330, but he hit home runs like never before. The Babe reached the Majors as a pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, and in his first full season he was 18-8. The next year, he went 23-12 and led the league with a 1.75 ERA. He was 24-13 in 1917, and then he did something that is often overlooked. In 1918, he was 13-7 on the mound, but also started 13 games at first base and 12 in the outfield. And by the way, he tied for the lead in the Majors that season with 11 home runs.

As an outfielder-pitcher in 1919, he led the Majors with 29 homers and was 9-5 pitching with a 2.97 ERA. In 1920 and '27, Ruth hit more homers than any other team in the American League. He didn't just hit them, he crushed them. "No one hit home runs like Babe did," said pitcher Lefty Gomez. "They were like homing pigeons. They would leave the bat, pause briefly... then suddenly take off for the stands." The Babe once held the single season homer mark at 60 and the lifetime mark at 714. He also hit for a career mark of .342 and a batting title. The Babe's teams won seven World Series. He still has the MLB all-time SLG (.690) and OPS (1.164) crowns.

The Sports Kings issue was a multi-sport issue by the Goudey Gum Company. The set is labeled as 1933, but it is thought the cards were produced over 1933-34. The cards were attractively packaged in striped wax packs with athletic silhouettes of various sports on the wrappers. The 48 cards in the set represent 18 sports. The only baseball players are Ruth, Ty Cobb, and Carl Hubbell. Jim Thorpe, who played MLB, is there as a football star. Graded PSA NM 7.
