1933 Joe Stripp Game Worn Brooklyn Dodgers Uniform - One-Year Style!
If you've never encountered this delectable Ebbets Field fashion before, there's good reason. This pairing of the "Dodgers" moniker with pinstripes is a single-season format and, perhaps even more importantly, the very first appearance of that historic nickname on a jersey in franchise history. Only the name of the home borough, or its initial, had been utilized until that time.

This ensemble belonged to starting third baseman Joe Stripp, who played 141 games at the hot corner in 1933, his second of six seasons at Ebbets. Stripp's greatest claim to baseball fame is his status as the last man to bat against a legally-thrown spitball, as Stripp was the final victim in the Hall of Fame career of Burleigh Grimes. The pinstripes and number "3" on verso instantly bring to mind another somewhat more famous denizen of the Big Apple diamond, while the twin letter "B"s on each sleeve and the "Dodgers" across the chest match the deep navy soutache at collar, button path and cuffs. Interior collar is tagged by "Spalding" and bears an embroidered "Stripp" attribution. Matching pants are identically tagged and embroidered.

Loosening of the soutache is the most obvious condition caveat, an issue that affects both halves of the uniform. The pants exhibit a degree of staining, but nothing that causes significant visual distraction. A small tear in the seat of the pants has been partially team-repaired. There are no other examples of this style in any major auction results database, suggesting this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the advanced Dodgers collector. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Letter of provenance from grandson of Joe Stripp.
