    Finer of two known examples!

1933 Goudey Sport Kings Uncut Sheet of Cards One through Twenty-Four with Ruth, Cobb, Thorpe. While the Great Depression remains one of the most painful eras of American history, it was a magical age for American sport, and for the Goudey Gum Company that serves today as that period's most coveted cardboard commemoration. In an era when even a penny trading card was a luxury item beyond the reach of many, the Goudey company bravely engineered a new era in the collecting hobby, launching the Bubble Gum Age with some of the most beautiful cards ever printed.

The Sport Kings issue was a particularly risky endeavor, as multi-sport issues had largely fallen out of favor after the late 19th century. And while this set ably silenced the doubters, the baseball entries remain the most coveted components of the set. Thankfully, the top stars of our nationally pastime appear in the low-number half of the forty-eight card issue represented by this uncut sheet, as we find Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb in the second row, each presenting without any visible flaws. The third most valuable card in the issue, and arguably the most important football card of the pre-war era, appears as Jim Thorpe #6. It too remains free of any condition distractions.

The cards that do require a more detailed condition report are those at each corner, where minor rounding occurs, and those along the bottom row, where very faint dampstaining can been seen. We also find minor areas of surface loss at Jewtraw #11, Tunney #18 and Londos #14, and a small area of soiling above the right shoulder of Weissmuller #21. Minor paper loss on verso affects Kahanamoku #20 and Wachter #5. Our catalog imagery should convey, however, that the overall aesthetics remains very strong, certainly well within acceptable parameters for a piece of such profound rarity. Only two Sport Kings sheets are known to exist to present day, and this is the superior specimen.
