Description

1933 Goudey Napoleon Lajoie #106 PSA VG-EX 4. Everyone knows the title of "Most Famous Baseball Card" goes to Honus Wagner and his world-renowned T206 card. In the Top Ten, there are cards featuring Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle and Ty Cobb, names everyone recognizes. Also on that list is the name of one player whose pronunciation is up for debate - Napoleon Lajoie. Like Wagner, the card has a great background story. Young Depression-era set builders, found themselves at a proverbial brick wall when wanting to add Card #106 to their collection. No one had one. Rumors of the "kid across town" who had one were wishful thinking. As it turned out, Goudey "mistakenly" failed to print card #106 in 1933. Sadly, those who would not be deterred wasted their precious pennies. As it turned out, Card #106 was not available in any standard wax pack - ever. It took a letter, mailed to the Boston offices of Goudey Gum Co., to earn this toughest of all cards from the Big Three set, accounting for its terrific scarcity today. Graded PSA VG-EX 4.
