    Description

1933 Goudey Dazzy Vance #2 SGC NM/MT 8. As the #1 card, Benny Bengough gets all the attention as the condition-rarity from the '33 Goudey set. Veteran Goudey specialists know card #2 is just as hard to find in high grade and, except for Lajoie, Dazzy Vance is among the toughest Hall of Famers to acquire for the uncompromising collector. It seems like years pass between offerings. Considered a late bloomer, Vance made up for lost time as he baffled hitters with a blazing fastball and knee-buckling curve. By far, 1924 was his best year as he struck out nearly double that of the next closest hurler and won National League MVP honors. He would lead the National League in strike outs for seven consecutive seasons. While the words "scarce" and "high quality" will be thrown around a decent number of times in this auction (all fully warranted), this card is worthy of such adjectives. Graded SGC NM-MT 8. One of only two in NM-MT with none rated higher!

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
