After three seasons in the unfamiliar role of runner-up to Connie Mack's second great Athletics dynasty, the Yankees retrieved its American League pennant from the Philly flagpole in decisive fashion, clinching a World Series berth exactly two weeks before Game One. With the luxury of setting its Fall Classic pitching rotation to its greatest benefit, the Yanks tapped their red-headed ace - Charles "Red" Ruffing. The 1932 American League strikeout king was second only to Lefty Grove in earned run average for the season.
