1923 W515-1 Uncut Strip (10)- With Hall of Famers. From the John Esch collection. When Jefferson Burdick published The American Card Catalog in 1939, he gave the category designation "W" to strip cards, many of which are still rather mysterious to this day. Most are blank-backed and feature comic book style drawings of their subjects. Often, they were printed on low-quality stock, which, occasionally, accounts for discoloration. They were sometimes presented to customers in strips of five or ten, which is the case with this example. Offered is an uncut strip of ten cards from the W515-1 series. Players include: Schalk, Groh, W. Robinson, Burns, Hornsby, Wheat, Roush, Collins, Hollocher, and Faber, no less than seven Hall of Famers. Overall, the piece is in a very presentable state; however, some paper loss to the Burns, Collins, and Faber cards is present.
