Description

1920 Ban Johnson Signed Letter to Miller Huggins. Offered is an 8.5x11" typed letter by American League President Ban Johnson to New York Yankees Manager Miller Huggins that reads:

"Dear Sir:

I enclose you copy of a letter written to Pitcher Shawkey today. He should have been removed from the game and automatically suspended for ten days. The rules are very clear on this point, and I am surprised a pitcher of Shawkey's intelligence should have offended to such degree. The rules were made by the Committee, and they will be enforced.

The fine must be paid within three (3) days.

Yours truly,"

Johnson's faded fountain pen signature is found below. Folding is found vertically and horizontally from when the letter was stored. The content references a suspension for Bob Shawkey but the only event of May 1920 we could find involving the pitcher was a fight with an umpire on the 27th - after this letter was typed. American League letterhead. Pre-Certified by PSA/DNA.
