Description

1917 World Series Program (New York). With the United States entering the fray of what would come to be known as World War I, just a week before the start of the 1917 Major League season, patriotic fervor was at an all-time high when the New York Giants and Chicago White Sox faced off in that year's World Series. Presented is the program sold at the Polo Grounds contests, featuring President Woodrow Wilson on the cover. There is an absence of any notations on the interior score sheets leaving the precise game of issue a mystery. This Series would prove to be the last won by the Chicago White Sox until 2005, a "curse" many attribute to the sin of the 1919 Black Sox scandal. Most of those Eight Men Out, including Shoeless Joe Jackson, Happy Felsch and Eddie Cicotte, are listed and pictured on the pages within. The publication has the regular handling wear - EX in our estimation. The binding is tight.
