Description1916 Grover Cleveland Alexander Handwritten Signed Letter. Brief handwritten letter from this first-ballot Hall of Famer dates to the second of a three-year span during which Old Pete claimed the National League Triple Crown of pitching, leading all Senior Circuit aces in victories, earned run average and strikeouts. Alexander's sixteen shutouts in 1916 is a standing record as safe as any in American sport.
"Sat. Sept 16 - 16,
My Dear Friend,
In reply to your letter in regards to my nationality I will say I am of Scotch Irish parents. My Father is a full blooded Scotchman and my Mother is Irish.
Respectfully [signed] GC Alexander."
Single handwritten page measures 5x6.5", with ink averaging 9/10. Original mailing envelope, unsigned but written entirely in Alexander's hand, is present. Alexander is the toughest autograph of those inductees present at the 1939 Grand Opening of the Hall of Fame, particularly in ALS format. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
