    Description

1915 Cracker Jack Ty Cobb #30 PSA NM-MT 8. Feared by most, but respected by all, Tyrus Raymond Cobb was the Machiavellian ideal of the early game, forging his Cooperstown bronze in the fires of natural ability and gritted-teeth determination. Although Cobb's staggering career hits tally of 4,191 was ultimately eclipsed, his ultimate batting record remains his .366 career batting average. No superlative seems suitably appropriate for a card such as this, it is nothing short of a monumentally valuable and impressive piece. For most of the beloved tobacco and candy issues of the era, few very high-grade examples exist. High grade gems from the snack makers' immensely popular 1914 debut edition actually do exist but in precious few quantities. Cobb was at the middle of one of the greatest decades experienced by any player. From 1910-1919 Cobb amassed 1,948 hits, batting .386 while striking out only 331 times over ten years!

Graded PSA NM-MT 8. One of ten in NM-MT. Five have rated higher. Suffice it to say, in this condition, this is one of the finer examples of one of the most desirable Ty Cobb cards in the hobby. Look closely at the image of the Peach, rendered over a century ago, you can see via his eyes and stance you are in the presence of greatness. The captivating red background compliments his stare rather appropriately. It is one of the finest portraits in the long and impressive history of baseball card art. Extending outward, we come to four borders which alter course at surprisingly high-quality corners. The verso is similarly fine, toning and print ghosting that one might expect is gentle and almost inviting as it offers a sense of authenticity.
