The Man Who First Smelled Trouble Before the 1919 World Series Started.

1915 Cracker Jack Christy Mathewson #88 PSA Mint 9 - None Higher. To card collectors, every card added is a card loved. Here, it will mean nothing short of a dream come true. Heritage presents one of the more remarkable Cracker Jack cards from an assembly that is among the finest assemblies placed upon the auction block. Those with even a passing knowledge of baseball collectibles can appreciate the desirability of any Mint condition card displaying the name "Mathewson." His illustrious career was firmly cemented in history by the time this card came to market. If Mathewson does not have a well-justified place in Cooperstown than no one does. A member of the inaugural class, "The Big Six" was one of two pitchers entering the Hall with Walter Johnson. A hero off the field as well, Mathewson served in WW I. His sightings of White Sox players talking with Hal Chase in a Cincinnati hotel planted the seeds which led to the eventual exposure of the darkest period in American Baseball. Christy's death from tuberculosis in 1925 was the delayed result of exposure to poisonous gas occurring during his service in World War I. He was truly the consummate athlete, officer, and a gentleman.

Graded PSA Mint 9. One of six in MINT. None have rated higher. Issued only a year shy of his retirement from professional baseball, the multi-colored portrait is exclusive to the 1915 edition that although an update from the classic 1914 pitching pose, is ironically of a very young Mathewson. His image and surrounding areas are flawless red field are interrupted only by the "Cracker Jack BALL PLAYERS" tag line. The imagery is centered about as perfectly as one could possibly hope for. The borders are bright and fresh, the back is a strong strike resulting in fully legible lettering. If one passes on this card for any reason the lucky winner will be eternally grateful. Stunning Mint condition.
