    Description

1915 Albert Spalding Signed Book to His Grandson. Essential early text from one of the key pioneers of our National Pastime, "America's National Game" traces the sport from its birth, to its growth in the military camps of the American Civil War, to the first professional teams, and forward through the first decade of the twentieth century. Every serious baseball historian has read it, and every collector of rare baseball books owns a copy, or desires one.

Those copies signed by the author are particularly coveted, of course, and this is no "ordinary" example thereof. Spalding's 9/10 black fountain pen ink assigns the volume on the opening blank page, "To my beloved grandson Durand Churchill, Jr. with the compliments and best wishes of the author, A.G. Spalding, Point Loma, Calif, April 29th, 1915." Hardcover first edition is lacking a dust jacket but is otherwise in remarkably fine condition, tightly bound with just small hints of shelf wear. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
