    Description

1912-13 Ty Cobb Original Oversized Photograph from The Ty Cobb Collection, PSA/DNA Type 1. A quick review of Mark Okkonen's essential research volume, "Dressed to the Nines: A History of the Baseball Uniform," supplies the two-season span of our lot title, a period that saw bat an even .400 while averaging fifty-six stolen bases and seventy-five RBI's a year. This monumental 15.5x10.75" sepia-toned original was clearly produced for an event of some significance, as this is a massive format for the period.

Adding to the enormous appeal of an oversized Type One image of the Dead Ball Era's greatest figure is its derivation from Cobb's personal collection--this is one of several such items filed under the heading of "The Ty Cobb Collection," each accompanied by a letter of provenance from the family of a former teammate of the Georgia Peach.

Some small patches of surface loss are apparent in our catalog imagery, but the distraction is minimal, and the photo is quite literally one of the finest portraits of the inaugural class Hall of Famer we've ever encountered. It's rich with period details, from the safety pin at the collar to the hand-cut sleeves to the grip tape on the scepter grasped in the hands of the former Hit King. Letter of provenance from family of Cobb's former teammate. LOA from PSA/DNA, Type 1.

Just wanted to let you know how pleased I am regarding the sale of my hockey jersey. You were great to work with, you answered all my phone calls and e-mails in a prompt manner, and you did a great job marketing the jersey.
