The finest of three known examples!

1911 Jones, Keyser & Arras Christy Mathewson #343 SGC 50 VG/EX 4. Like a spiny creature lurking deep in an ocean trench, the Jones, Keyser & Arras set remained unknown to the collecting world until a singular discovery brought the species into public consciousness. The set was never cataloged by Jefferson Burdick, the father of trading card classification, emerging decades after his death when Mastro presented a large group in the 1990's. We still can't be entirely certain of the full roster of entries--only forty-one subjects are known, though the etched numbers in the lower right quadrant have led to speculation that there were fifty in the original run. Only fifty-four representations from the entire issue exist within a major grading company's slab.

The set trends heavily toward Big Apple ballplayers, and that's certainly no coincidence considering that the Jones, Keyser & Arras photographic studio stood in the shadow of the Flatiron Building in Manhattan. Among those New York entries, Big Six reigns supreme, and here we encounter the finest of the trio of known exemplars.

The cabinet features a masterful full-body portrait of the inaugural class Hall of Famer, presented in 5.5x3.5" dimensions. The cardboard mount expands the design to an approximate 7.25x5". Remarkably, mild corner rounding accounts for nearly the entirety of condition issues, the ancient relic somehow dodging the common and more problematic dangers of chipping, cracking and staining. A small black scuff on verso is no real distraction, but likely played a role in the grade.

It should go without saying that the tiny population and this specimen's supremacy among them, undermines any condition complaints, establishing this as one of the most compelling trading card offerings within this Platinum Night event.
