Description

1911 E94 Close Candy "Old" Cy Young (Red) PSA NM 7 - Pop Two, None Higher. They say records are made to be broken. Cy Young's 511 career wins are nearly 100 in front of any other pitcher that has ever planted his foot on the mound. It is a benchmark that will likely never be seriously approached, let alone bested. The annual Cy Young award cements the fact that no other pitcher's name is so completely synonymous with baseball excellence as does Denton True Young. Cy was the face of the new American League's Boston franchise, winning over forty percent of the Red Sox' games for its 1901 debut season and earning the AL Triple Crown. He pitched the first perfect game of the 20th century (and the American League) in 1904, part of his major league record for consecutive scoreless innings pitched and the most consecutive no-hit innings at 25.1 innings. Is it any wonder there is an award of excellence named after him?

Graded PSA NM 7. One of two recorded in "NM" with none higher. The other NM card has an Olive background making this the highest graded example with a Red background. With a total pop of only twenty cards, Young is among the least submitted of the E94 HoFers. Issued near the end of his legendary career in 1911, this Close Candy Co. E94 of the great Cy Young is also one his more difficult cards to acquire. The card is in remarkable condition showing almost no signs of surface, edge or corner wear. A consistent bright white border surrounds the vivid Red background.
