1911 E94 Close candy Johnny Evers (Red) PSA NM-MT 8 - Pop One, None Higher! One of the more fascinating vintage baseball candy card sets is the E94 George Close Candy card set issued in 1911. The 30-man roster is filled with ten Hall of Famers plus stars like Magee and Cicotte. Veteran e-card specialists learned early on that you don't encounter them nearly as often as other candy sets of this era. The limited supply is problematic enough without the fact that each player can be found with seven different color backgrounds. And it doesn't stop there. A very small sampling of cards display advertising for different George Close products on the reverse which are by far the rarest E94 variation. Offered is the perfect compliment to the E94 Frank Chance found elsewhere in this auction (also graded NM-MT) in HoFer Johnny Evers who shares the same vivid red background and exemplary condition.Graded PSA NM-MT 8. This is the only entry graded NM-MT and, like Chance was no other equal or finer example rated higher. Looking at this card we are not surprised. Only 1% of the entire E94 population of cards (currently just over 660 examples) on the PSA census match this grade with one nicer.
