Description

1910 T209-2 Contentnea (Photo Series) B. E. Thompson PSA Poor 1. From the John Esch collection. This is certainly one of the more fascinating baseball cards in the hobby. It is part of the T209 Contentnea Black & White Photo Series and it doesn't even feature a baseball player. The card pictures a man identified as B. E. Thompson who is dressed as Uncle Sam. The personality dates back to the early 1800s and would become an icon of the American war efforts thanks to a recruitment poster by James Montgomery Flagg. The text on the back, which is unique to this card, reads, "Be Sure and Save B. E. Thompson's Picture" and "Ask Your Dealer About It." This card requires a painful amount of searching and maybe some pure luck in order to add it to your collection. Creasing and staining. Graded PSA Poor 1. There are just nine examples recorded on the PSA census.
