    Description

1909-11 T206 Sweet Caporal 350-460/30 Ty Cobb (Bat Off Shoulder) PSA Authentic - One of Three Known! This is a card that as we are seeing it should not exist. Some years ago, a collection of T206 cards appeared on eBay that most would have just looked over without giving them the a second thought. But in this hobby, knowledge is power and those studied in the ways of "The Monster" realized these were not just a sizeable collection (it was a year before the auctions stopped appearing) but they were a player/brand/factory combinations that were not meant to be. The nearly 30 different subjects displayed a "Sweet Caporal - 350-460 Subjects" ad with a factory 30 caption. Sounds like a likely combination but it is not. What was missing was the overprint bar and the caption adding "Factory No. 42 4th Dist. N. C." It is with this overprint that the subjects were ultimately placed in packs and sold to the public.

The cards without the update factory information all show evidence to the argument they became printer's scrap and never left the print shop. Was this in error or simply had too many been printed and like 1952 Topps high-numbers some 40 years later and were destined for the trash pile. Thankfully, some enterprising shop employee kept some as souvenirs. The supply of these cards based on the eBay auctions varied from player to player with some appearing in more than a half-dozen auction offerings. We were informed by hobbyists who very closely followed the auctions that there only three Ty Cobbs offered and since no others have surfaced to anyone's knowledge.

Encapsulated PSA Authentic. Official Ty Cobb "Bat Off Shoulder" examples with the Sweet Cap. 350-460/42 Overprint has been confirmed on just twenty PSA-graded cards. As mentioned, it is possible just three cards have survived in their original state of production. The hand cut nature of printer scrap is consistent and for the most part obvious. Her we see edges with a gentle slope versus the usual ups and downs only a human machine could produce. As the few examples of this elusive early twentieth century artifact are absorbed into private collections, we may soon have to content ourselves with old auction catalog photography should we wish to encounter one. But here a devoted collector will have the opportunity to become the curator of a special piece that one hopes and trusts shall survive for centuries to come.

Just wanted to let you know how pleased I am regarding the sale of my hockey jersey. You were great to work with, you answered all my phone calls and e-mails in a prompt manner, and you did a great job marketing the jersey.
