    Description

1909-11 T206 Drum Tris Speaker Rookie PSA Poor 1. With only thirty-eight games under his Major League belt at the start of the 1909 season, it's entirely proper to characterize Speaker's T206 as a rookie card, and he'd be known as one of the finest hitters in the game by the time American Tobacco's three-year production span was complete, en route to eventual enshrinement as a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame's inaugural class.

But as brilliant and accomplished as the man pictured on the obverse of this ancient relic might be, it's the back of the card that establishes this particular specimen as an elite hobby treasure. Have a look at the full population for T206's in the PSA population, sorted by advertising back. Over 100,000 Piedmonts appear, and well over 50,000 Sweet Caporals.

But only the Ty Cobb and Uzit backs are tougher than the elusive Drum, which stands at 157 at the time of this writing. This is one of just three Speaker representations, comprised of two at the Poor 1 level and a single VG-EX 4. While this specimen comes by its ranking honestly, the most substantial fault is a horizontal fold line that mercifully connects with nothing but the blue sky above Speaker's head, leaving his batting pose untouched.
