Description

1909-11 E90-1 American Caramel Joe Jackson SGC 40 VG 3. For those who don't realize it, this is the rookie card of baseball's greatest batsman. While his exploits with the Cleveland Indians and Chicago White Sox are well-known, few realize that Jackson actually got his start in the big leagues with Connie Mack's Philadelphia A's in 1908. It is astounding that the American Caramel Company included Jackson in their 120-card issue, as all of the much larger tobacco issues of the same years failed to feature the young slugger. Jackson only played in 5 games in '08 and '09 before being sent to Cleveland for the 1910 season, which possibly explains, but does not excuse, what would be a historical entry.

Graded SGC 40 VG 3. This is one of the most highly prized cards in our hobby. Not only are E90-1 American Caramel cards far more difficult to find than their tobacco counterparts, Jackson is a particularly difficult card within the set due to his immense popularity. A glance at SGC's Population Report proves that point. Only seventy-nine examples that have passed through the grading room at SGC. This is a solid, mid-grade example with no heavy creasing and deep, saturated colors with just agreeable corner wear to note. This card would hold up admirably well among its peers.
