1891 Conly Cabinet Photos - Boston Reds American Association Collection (11). John Esch Collection. The 1891 Boston Reds won the American Association pennant with an impressive 93-42 record. However, the league disbanded after that season and the team folded with it. The squad featured numerous standout players; several were photographed for a series of cabinet photos, eleven of which are offered in this collection. The studio of photographer, Charles Conly of Boston, captured the images of these players: John Irwin, Arthur Irwin (also manager), Hardy Richardson, Bill Daily, Tom Brown, Paul Radford, John Strickler, Charlie Buffinton (who won 29 games that season), Morgan Murphy, Darby O'Brien, and Duke Farrell. All of the images are in excellent condition, with very little discoloration or damage. Items relating to the American Association are scarce, this lot is a fine opportunity to own a great collection of nineteenth century baseball images that very likely represent the complete Conly roster of available players.
