    Description

1887-93 Chicago White Stockings (Hart Brothers & Co.) Baseball Currency. Offered is a splendid example of the highly collectible "currency" advertising popular among retailers in the late 1880's. This is arguably the most desirable variation, picturing the historic White Stockings led by Hall of Fame player/manager Cap Anson, who is pictured on verso along with eleven others including early legends John Clarkson and Billy Sunday. Hall of Fame pioneer and sporting goods titan Albert Spalding commands obverse. The fragile paper is lacking the heavy folds. There is one bend in the paper and no other notable faults. The printed sponsor is "Hart Brothers & Co.," clothoers from Warren, Ohio. Hand cut.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
