    Description

1887-90 N172 Old Judge Clark Griffith (#201-1) SGC 40 VG 3. Offered is an N172 Old Judge card featuring Clark Griffith. "The Old Fox" began his lifetime association with baseball in 1888 as a pitcher for Milwaukee Brewers/Creams and remained faithful to the game for over 60 years. His career debut came with the St. Louis Browns in 1891, eventually becoming a player-manager for various teams until 1920. That same year he became owner of the Senators, a title he held until his death in 1955. When the American League was formed in 1901, Griffith was one of the first players to join the new league and convinced others to do so as well. He rewarded the Chicago White Sox by winning 24 games, helping to earn the newly-formed team their first pennant. Pose: #201-1 Bat at Ready, looking at camera. Caption: GRIFFITH, P., Milwaukees. Graded SGC 40 VG 3. Photo quality: Good.
