The lone finest example of four in PSA population!

1886 N167 Old Judge Roger Conner (Connor) New York Giants PSA NM 7. The Polo Grounds stood near the northeast corner of Central Park when the 1886 New York Giants defended the turf as its home ballpark, a team bursting with 19th century legends including Monte Ward, Buck Ewing, Jim O'Rourke, Tim Keefe, Mickey Welsh and the man whose mustachioed visage adorns the presented relic. Roger Connor occupied first base and served as the team's greatest offensive threat, leading the 1886 team in virtually every offensive category: hits (172), doubles (29), triples (20) and home runs (7). It was Connor's career home run record that Ruth would surpass in 1920, though the nineteenth century long ball artist was practically forgotten after his retirement and was buried in an unmarked grave in 1931.

But here we find the greatest Big Apple first baseman before Gehrig at age twenty-eight an in the prime of his Hall of Fame career. If you've never seen this card before, there's good reason for that, as only four exist in the full PSA population, with this one a full three grades superior to its closest rival in that intensely endangered species. The N167 issue contained just a dozen subjects, each a member of the New York Giants, half now enshrined at Cooperstown. We note that only one other card from the set--a Tim Keefe representation--shares a NM 7 rating. None rise higher.

The spectacular state of preservation after more than thirteen decades of existence shatters all laws of probability, and we must suspect it was once tucked in the pages of an old book and then forgotten for a century or more. Only the lightest corner touches offer any variation from as-new status. And with only four examples thus far submitted to PSA, the eternal hobby dominance of its new owner is virtually assured.
