1869 Peck & Snyder Cincinnati Red Stockings Trade Card SGC Authentic - Ad Back. Heritage Sports Auctions is pleased to offer, as the opening lot for our Signature Sports Auction, the card widely considered by hobbyists to be one of the very first baseball cards ever produced. Although some may dismiss its status as the first true baseball card, no one can deny the significance of the young game's first professional team, the 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings. The key subjects are George Wright (second from left, top row) and Harry Wright (center, bottom row), the pioneering brothers whose contributions to the development of the sport are far too numerous to introduce here. In its current state, the hand cut card measures a slightly irregular 4" x 2-2-9/16." Lost to the ages are border areas where the Hall of Fame pair and eight other members of this historic club were identified by surname and position. The sepia-tone photograph image has faded some over the last 150 years. The reverse surface is clean with a bold, albeit incomplete Peck & Snyder ad. Encapsulated SGC Authentic.Auction Info
