    Description

Mid-1940's Buddy Kerr Game Worn Jersey. Direct from the Polo Grounds comes this heavy white flannel gamer, worn in action by the New York Giants' star shortstop. Once upon a time, our consignor's family had the entire Giants squad, after writing to the team and asking if they might donate their used uniforms for use by his high school team, a favor that was granted. But after the gamers of Ott, Lombardi, Medwick and the rest had been used by the schoolkids, they were put into storage in a damp barn. This is the only one that survived. The silver lining of this sad tale is the fine example offered here, with "Giants" in blue and red felt on the chest, and Kerr's number "10" on verso. "Kerr" is chainstitched in red on a felt swatch below the "Goldsmith [size] 42" collar tagging. The zipper on front is broken and the jersey shows expected wear and light staining, but it still presents beautifully as one of the last in this color scheme before the switch to the Halloween colors that survive to this day. LOA from Lou Lampson.
