Description

Early 1970's Willie Stargell Game Worn Pittsburgh Pirates Uniform. Presented is one of the earliest "knits" ever issued to this beloved Buccaneer, worn during the productive center of his twenty-one season career. Heavily worn jersey announces "Pirates 8" on its chest and repeats that digit on verso, the black and yellow tackle twill exhibiting visible damage and bleaching. A large tear is found at right shoulder. Interior rear tail holds "Rawlings [size] 40" label and washing instructions tag. It should be noted that the jersey actually measures to a size 44, a discrepancy which is quite commonly found in these earliest knits. Matching pants are in far stronger condition, with a "Rawlings [size] 38" label at interior waistband above a "Stargell 38 25 73" embroidered swatch. Writing at interior pocket suggests secondary usage in spring training or the minors. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
