    Description

Circa 1981 Nolan Ryan Game Worn Houston Astros Rare Alternate Jersey. Rare pale grey knit was occasionally utilized by the Astros on games outside the 'dome, and would be highly coveted by sophisticated collectors even in the absence of this example's regal heritage. The shirt dates to the early years of Ryan's term of service in Houston, quite possibly to the 1981 campaign in which he led the National League with an astonishing 1.69 earned run average. "Astros" and the Lone Star are screened to jersey chest, with "Ryan 34" applied to verso in navy tackle twill. The love-it-or-hate-it rainbow striping adorns the shoulders, and dual "Sand-Knit" labels in the tail denote Astros exclusivity and size "44." Solid wear is evident throughout. Flawless black sharpie signature appears at upper left chest. Jersey derives from the collection of the hobby's top Astros jersey collector, one of several lots appearing within this auction. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication (autograph). Pre-certified by PSA/DNA (autograph).
