Charming exchange was captured on live television!

2018 Luka Doncic (Doncic) Game Worn & Signed Dallas Mavericks Rookie Jersey Gifted to Young Fan.

    Dirk who?

Ok, that may be overstating matters slightly, and the global headquarters of Heritage Auctions are in Dallas, so we understand better than most just how tough it was to say goodbye to the face of the franchise after twenty-one years of Hall of Fame-caliber service. But as one European superstar rode off into the sunset at the close of the 2018-19 season, another Maverick sourced from the opposite side of the Atlantic was making his presence known in a big way, earning the 2019 NBA Rookie of the Year Award and a new generation of fans in the Lone Star State.

However one of Luka Doncic's most ardent admirers lives way up in northern California, where a courtside seat beside his parents at a Golden State Warriors game, and hard drive to the basket, set a special friendship into motion. Leading by a point late in the third quarter at the Oracle Arena, Doncic saw his lay-up attempt rejected by Draymond Green as he tumbled past the basket and into a row of folding chairs set just to the left of the hoop's stanchion. While the Warriors charged back up the court to capitalize on the miss, Doncic stayed behind to comfort the ten-year old boy who had suffered the brunt of the collision.

When the December 22, 2018 game was over, Doncic sought out the youngster, delivering to him the jersey he had been wearing and signing it for the boy in black marker. The boy grins widely for the cameras as he holds the shirt up proudly. The video of the collision and the jersey presentation can be viewed at our online listing.

Doncic would provide nineteen points, three rebounds and five assists in the 120-116 loss, but the SportsCenter moment with the star-struck boy was the story of the game, supplying the youngsters with a brief burst of shared global notoriety. We were thrilled when the recipient of the jersey reached out to us at Heritage, asking for our assistance in converting that special gift into capital for his college fund.

Now one of the hottest names in the sport, Doncic remains absent from all but a tiny handful of game worn jersey collections, with just a scant few gamers released to the public by NBA auctions. Certainly none are quite so uniquely documented as this representation. Chest reports "Dallas 77" beneath the logos of sponsors "Nike" and "5 miles," while "Doncic 77" is similarly applied to verso. It is here we find the bold black sharpie autograph which Doncic signed on camera. Lower left front tail bears "Nike NBA Authentics [size] 52" label with "Length +6" flap tag to the right and serial coding label to the left. And we really like the league's new innovation of a golden "Championship" tag at exterior rear collar announcing the franchise tally of one. The jersey remains in unwashed condition, exhibiting the wear of that battle with the Western Conference Champs. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Letter of provenance from consignor. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
