The torch is passed from one Captain to another...

2014 Derek Jeter Breaks Gehrig's Franchise Doubles Record Game Worn New York Yankees Uniform & Game Used Second Base. For nearly eight decades, since Lou Gehrig surged past Babe Ruth in 1935, the New York Yankees franchise record for career doubles had belonged to the Iron Horse. But on July 22, 2014, Derek Jeter doubled down the left field line as the lead-off batter in the bottom of the ninth inning of a scoreless battle with the visiting Texas Rangers to record his 535th two-base knock, securing sole ownership of the lead, quite possibly for eternity. Subsequent batters would fail to bring The Captain home with the walk-off winning run, but five innings later Chase Headley, in his first game as a Yankee, would deliver a game-winning single, plating second baseman Brian Roberts four and a half hours after the first pitch had been thrown.

This final significant Yankee milestone of Jeter's career is commemorated in the presented lot, the full uniform worn by the departing legend, and the second base he reached to knock Gehrig from his perch. Film footage of the event perfectly matches the pinstriped pattern as it connects with the classic "NY" navy tackle twill logo on the chest and the Captain's fabled number "2" on reverse. Lower left front tail is properly tagged, "Majestic Authentic Collection [size] 46" with "2014" flap tag and a trio of authenticating decals from Steiner Sports, Major League Baseball, and the New York Yankees. Jeter's 10/10 silver sharpie signature is applied to rear numeral.

Matching pants are likewise tagged by "Majestic" with further text reporting, "#2 Jeter 35-40 36 OB '13." We note it is not uncommon for uniform pieces to cross over to a subsequent year, as these pants clearly did. The same assembly of authentication stickering present on the jersey appears on the pants tagging as well. Blue sharpie signature rates 10/10. Solid wear evident throughout jersey and pants.

Finally, the second base appears with authentication stickering from Steiner and Major League Baseball, along with a handwritten notation on the underside that reads, "7/22/14, 2nd Base, 7th - 14th." Jeter autographs the clay-stained surface in 9/10 black sharpie. Steiner Sports 206596 jersey, 206597 pants, 212650 base. MLB Authentic HZ164747 jersey, HZ164748 pants, HZ164750 base. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Full LOA from PSA/DNA for each item.
