    Description

2012 Miguel Cabrera Home Run #303 Game Worn Detroit Tigers Jersey from Triple Crown Season -- Photo Matched! Years, even decades, passed before the Triple Crown was realized again. Carl Yastrzemski struck gold in 1967 when he paced the Junior Circuit in batting average, home runs and runs batted in. Every few years a player would spawn talk of gaining inclusion into baseball's most exclusive fraternity. But, inevitably, their efforts would fall by the wayside. Injures, an extended slump or the long grind of a full baseball season have to be avoided if someone is going to even think about winning all three categories.

In 2012, Miguel Cabrera was steady and solid as ever as he made his move. The entire baseball world took notice as the season was winding down and Cabrera was atop all three offensive categories. His .330 average, 44 home runs and 139 RBIs allowed him to join the ranks of Cobb, Hornsby, Gehrig, Medwick, Ted Williams, Mantle, Frank Robinson among a few others in baseball history. Following his career, Cabrera's final resting place will be in Cooperstown. Anything related to his magical season gains instant traction. Well, this "Majestic size 50" jersey is a winner in several aspects. Authentication is secured with an MLB hologram (EK 166827). We checked the MLB database and the Dri-fit road jersey is listed as: "Game-Used Jersey Det. at Bos Aug. 1, 2012."

Worth special mention are the initials "JGS" written by longtime equipment staffer Jim Schmackel on the Majestic size label. Schmackel has provided his initials on Tigers gamers from as far back as the 1980's as a way of authenticating game-worn jerseys. Miggy also provides his personal authentication with a signature on the back numbers and this lengthy inscription: "Best wishes Career Home Run #303 8-1-2012 My Triple Crown MVP Season." We did confirm Cabrera hit a homer off Aaron Cook that day in a win. The jersey is also photo matched to the game. Getty Images 149659971 has the same puckering on the right portion of the "D" in "Detroit" as seen on the front of the jersey.

The button-up jersey shows good overall use with slight rippling on the three-color tackle twill identifiers. "Detroit 24" is spaced across the front while dark blue braiding surrounds the neck and button path. "Cabrera 24" is featured on the reverse. The tail includes a rubberized Majestic size label (Schmackel's initials and MLB hologram) and "24 50 '12 478" swatch which denotes player number, size, year and inventory number. Majestic's curled "0630" tag is secured inside. MLB Authentic EK 166827. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. LOA from Heritage Auctions.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
