Mo gets the save to launch final season at The House that Ruth Built

2008 Mariano Rivera Last Opening Day at Original Yankee Stadium Game Worn New York Yankees Jersey. It was the eighty-sixth and final Opening Day at the House that Ruth Built, an occasion that brought excitement tinged with a hint of melancholy as the Yankees took the field, and a packed house settled in for a battle with American League East rivals the Toronto Blue Jays. For the first time since 1995, a man other than Joe Torre held the managerial reins, and Derek Jeter joked that Joe Girardi "moves a little better than Mr. T did, trotting out to the foul line," for the pre-game introductions.

The contest would end with Girardi meeting his former battery-mate on the infield grass, where Rivera would present him with the ball flipped from Robinson Cano to Jason Giambi to record the twenty-seventh out. Rivera had required just twelve pitches to record his perfect ninth inning, notching save number one of thirty-nine for the 2008 season, and the 444th of his illustrious career. This is the jersey he was wearing to start the 2008 tally.

The time-tested home pinstriped format, unchanged since Joe DiMaggio's rookie campaign of 1936, provides the logo "NY" over the heart in midnight blue tackle twill, with the fabled number "42" taking up the reverse. Left and right sleeve patches debuting this game report the significance of the season, foreshadowing the closing of the hallowed ballpark at season's end and the All-Star game at its center respectively. Wear is appropriate for one inning's action, and jersey is autographed in 9+/10 blue sharpie on the chest and neatly inscribed, "Game Used, Opening Day 4-1-08, Last Opening Day at original stadium."

Lower left front tail holds "Majestic Athletic Authentic Collection" label with "2008" and size "48" flap tags. Here we find holographic authentication stickers from MLB and Steiner Sports further assuring provenance as stated.

As one of the top ten Yankees of all time, Rivera is a required component of any serious collection dedicated to pinstriped history. This garment beginning the final season on baseball's most hallowed ground is one of the more significant Sandman relics we've encountered. MLB Authentic BB931191. Steiner Sports 49189.
