2005 Joe Torre Game Worn New York Yankees Jersey. This rare jersey is a veteran of the greatest rivalry in American sports, a contest that fell on the somber fourth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. While the tragic events of that day will never be forgotten, the Yankees did their part in turning the attention of the baseball community to relief efforts for the costliest natural disaster in American history, the terrible Hurricane Katrina that devastated New Orleans and much of the rest of the Gulf Coast only a few weeks earlier. The right sleeve of the presented home pinstriped jersey worn by the Yankee captain bears a logo patch of "The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services," a reminder to fans that funds and support were desperately needed during the crisis.

The game was a tense pitching duel of deeply contrasting styles--Tim Wakefield's baffling knuckle ball against Randy Johnson's blazing fastball. A Jason Giambi solo shot would provide the game's only run, giving the Yanks a one to nothing victory over their fierce rival in a tight American League East race.

Beyond the aforementioned sleeve patch the jersey appears in the time-tested home pinstriped format, with "NY" over the heart and number "6" on the back applied in navy tackle twill. Lower left front tail is tagged, "Majestic Athletic Authentic Collection" with a size "48" flap tag and another that has faded beyond legibility. Here we find the twin holographic authentication stickers of Major League Baseball and Steiner Sports, the former bearing a serial number recording the garment's significance. Wear is appropriately light for a single contest in the skipper's role.

The Joe Torre market received a double-barreled rocket boost in 2014 with the announcements of impending enshrinement in both the Baseball Hall of Fame and Yankee Stadium's Monument Park, where number six will be laid to rest. MLB Authentic MT00654228. Holographic sticker from Steiner Sports. LOA from Heritage Auctions.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
