    Description

2004 David Ortiz "Brawl vs. Yankees" Game Worn Jersey. Perhaps the most memorable regular season game of the Boston's glorious Curse-breaking campaign, the Red Sox rallied from two runs down against Hall of Fame closer Mariano Rivera to claim an eleven to ten walk-off victory in a foreshadowing of the incredible ALCS comeback in October. Despite these eleventh-hour fireworks, it was a third-inning plunking of Yankee star Alex Rodriguez for which the game is best remembered. Believing the beanball to be an intentional one, A-Rod glared at Sox pitcher Bronson Arroyo, raising the ire of catcher Jason Varitek, who first verbally berated the third baseman before shoving him in the face. Benches cleared, some blood was spilled, and several were ejected before peace was restored. Presented is the jersey worn by Big Papi as he threw his considerable weight behind the hometown cause. Classic "Red Sox" on chest gives way to Ortiz' number "34" on verso, beside which Papi has signed in 10/10 black sharpie with the inscription "Game Use 2004, 07/24/04, Brawl vs. NY." Tail tagging "Russell Athletic Authentic Collection," with "2004" year tag below. Light but definite wear is evident. As a relic from an unforgettable game of an unforgettable season from arguably the club's most important member, the relevance of the offering is difficult to overstate. This is a jersey that will still draw "oohs and aahs" a century from now. LOA from David Ortiz. LOA from SCD Authentic. LOA from PSA/DNA (autograph). LOA from James Spence Authentication (autograph). Guide Value or Estimate: $4,000 - $6,000.
