1999 Tony Gwynn 3,059th Hit Game Worn & Signed San Diego Padres Jersey. Historic jersey worn by Mr. Padre when he registered his 3,059th career hit on September 29, 1999 versus the Cardinals at St. Louis. The teams played a double-header that day. Tony registered three hits in the first game and four hits in the second game, for seven hits on the day! Number 3,059 was a double.hit #3,059 was a double, Gwynn's third hit of the game, in the sixth inning against Darren Oliver. Gwynn went 4-for-4 in the second game for seven hits on the day, one of the last big days in his career.
Midnight navy alternate knit displays "Padres" diagonally scripted across the chest, with "19" offset below, and "Gwynn" arched on the verso, with "19" below. Tail reveals "3059 vs. STL 9-29-99" inscription on the "Russell Athletic/Diamond Collection 50" label and "3059" on the fabric content flap tag, all in vintage blue ink, to memorialize the occasion. Also, the verso is signed "Tony Gwynn" in 10/10 vintage black sharpie with "Authentic Sports Investments 18772" serialized holographic sticker affixed nearby. Furthermore, "3059 9-29-99 vs. STL" appears in white embroidery below the verso identifiers, an added feature on some of his hit-specific gamers.
This jersey has a lot going for it, including, 1) The Padres thirtieth anniversary patch is correctly positioned on the left sleeve; 2) The "3004" inscription on the Russell Athletic label is in the same hand as other known Gwynn exemplars; and 3) The wear is what it should be -- light but decently light.
Note: Tony and Alicia Gwynn were way ahead of their time when they had the hit king change jerseys for specific hits during Mr. San Diego's run for 3,000.
