1998 Tony Gwynn Game Worn San Diego Padres Jersey, Pants, Helmet, Cap & Baseball From Hits 2,917 & 2,918. Tony Gwynn had a quiet presence to him but his infectious cackle laugh is still missed in San Diego. It is hard to imagine Mr. Padre being gone forever. Used to slap his 2,917 and 2,918 hits is this collection of game-used Gwynn. Batting leadoff is the "Russell Athletic [size] 50" midnight navy jersey Gwynn used for both hits. The date (9/17/98 #2917 2918) is notated on the Russell label in the tail and embroidered on back. Light use is shown on the jersey. Not to be outdone are the "Russell Athletic [size] 39" pants worn that magical day. Great soil wear is visible on the backside. Headwear is covered with the "New Era [size] 7 1/8" cap and "American Baseball Cap [size] 7 1/8" helmet worn by Gwynn. The very ONL (Coleman) ball launched into the outfield for hit #2917 is also included as are the batting gloves and wristbands. Both autographs on the batting gloves are in a reduced state given the heavy ink saturation. While we have seen some Gwynn game-worn hit jerseys, we haven't encountered a complete ensemble such as this catalog listing. In all, Gwynn signed seven individual items.
