    Description

1993 Goose Gossage Game Worn Oakland Athletics Jersey with Cardinals Team Provenance. Rich Gossage's physical presence, aggressive demeanor, and vaunted fastball intimidated batters for more than two decades. In fact, a 1970's guide to pitchers rated the Gossage's fastball behind only Nolan Ryan's from 1975-79. Known for speaking his mind, the Goose once noted, "If I'm a batter I wouldn't hit against myself." Commentating on the role of relievers today versus when he played, he observed, "It takes three guys to do what I did." And likening pitchers to race racehorses he remarked, "If you train a horse to race half a block, that's all he's going to be able to run."

The Hall of Famer's home white, button-down knit reports "Athletics" scripted across the chest and "54" offset below, all in green and gold tackle twill. "Gossage" is sewn on to back nameplate with his number below. Fabulous team patch on left sleeve displays elephant with crossed bats. The absence of the team's 25th anniversary patch on the right sleeve confirms this example as 1993 gamer. Tail reveals "Russell 50" and extra length tags. Game wear is light but evident. Letter of provenance from the St. Louis Cardinals. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
