    Description

1988 John Smoltz Game Worn Atlanta Braves Jersey. Very few pitchers are able to reinvent themselves, especially after facing career-ending adversity. Following Tommy John surgery, most figured John Smoltz would toil in obscurity before calling it a career. But the righty became a full-time closer of the highest order and received a Hall of Fame nod during his first year of eligibility. Not bad for a throw-in pick from the Doyle Alexander trade of 1987. This "Wilson [size] 44" jersey was worn by Smoltz during his earliest of days with the Atlanta Braves. In 1988 Smoltz entered by Big Leagues wearing #57 before he switched to his familiar #29. In fact, both Smoltz and Terry Blocker donned #29 in '88. Evidence of where another nameplate stood is visible on the back of this road representation. Two attending email threads explain the lineage of the jersey. Moderate use is featured on the button-up with consistent puckering on the two-tone numbers. The tail features three tags: Wilson, suspended size and "88" (year) swatch. Smoltz applied a vintage signature near the tagging. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
