    Description

1987 Paul Molitor Game Worn & Signed Milwaukee Brewers Jersey - 39-Game Hit Streak Season! The only batsman to gain entrance into the exclusive 3,000-hit club via a triple, Paul Molitor's twenty-one-season big league career was packed with numerous accolades and achievements. He was a seven-time Summer Classic invite, a Fall Classic MVP, World Series champion, and selected as the designated hitter on the Major League Baseball All-Time Team.

Molitor was a key component of two World Series teams. He hit .306 and scored a league leading 136 runs for the 1982 Brewers and hit .332 with 121 runs and 111 RBI for the 1993 Blue Jays. A clutch performer to the core, he hit .357 in two ALCS and .418 in two World Series. If you want to comprehend Molitor's legendary longevity, consider this - he had 225 hits when he was thirty-nine-years-old!

The jersey on offer here dates from Molitor's greatest overall season, when he recorded career highs in batting average (.353) and stolen bases (45), while leading the league in runs (114) and doubles (forty-five), all while playing in just 118 games! But what really made this season one for the ages was his thirty-nine-game hitting streak; the fifth highest ever of the modern era. As the streak progressed, the entire nation was focused on his every at bat. Molitor hit an incredible .415 during the streak and went to his last at bat on just three occasions.

The home white pullover, with blue pinstripes and a v-collar, displays "Brewers 4" on the front and "4" on the verso, all sewn-on in blue/gold tackle twill. Fabulous tagging in the inside front tail of the jersey includes "Rawlings 42," "87 Molitor," "T" (for tapered), and "Set 1 1987." The jersey is signed on the front in vintage blue sharpie and exhibits season-long wear, highlighted by fraying and pliability of the identifiers, puckering to the tagging, and what appears to be several tobacco stains. Also, this was the first year that Rawlings produced the Brewers uniforms and the manufacturer's logo is embroidered in blue on a rectangular white swatch on the right sleeve. The fact that this is a one-year style (the following season "Rawlings" was embroidered directly onto the sleeves) makes this exemplar all the more special. As 1980's knits continue to grow in popularity and value, here is a golden opportunity to own one of the best specimens. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
