    Description

1986 Nolan Ryan Game Worn Houston Astros Jersey, MEARS A6. "Every hitter likes fastballs just like everybody likes ice cream. But you don't like it when someone's stuffing it into you by the gallon. That's how you feel when Ryan's throwing balls by you." Reggie Jackson eloquently summed up the sentiments of more than a quarter century of batters who had been mowed down in a volume unmatched in the long history of the professional game. As Ryan entered the 1986 season at age thirty-nine, he was still 1,600 K's short of his ultimate tally of 5,714, proving that the Fountain of Youth clearly does reside somewhere within the Lone Star State.

This home white knit pullover exhibits light but definite wear from a season that saw the Astros make it all the way to the NLCS, where the Mets would topple them and soon thereafter make the ultimate goat of Red Sox first baseman Bill Buckner. "Astros" and the logo star appear in navy and white tackle twill on the chest, with "Ryan 34" taking up the rear. The Houston All-Star Game patch on left sleeve is replaced, the sole MEARS deduction beyond the points lost for minimal use. Lower left front tail is tagged "W.A. Goodman & Sons [size] 44." LOA from MEARS, A6. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
