1985-86 Pete Rose Game Worn Jersey. While conventional wisdom generally dictates that it is the rookie era jersey that is the most desirable, a strong case could be made otherwise in this particular instance. Dating from some point during the final two seasons of Charlie Hustle's remarkable career, this jersey is a dead ringer for the very one that Rose was wearing as he saluted the crowd from first base at Riverfront after hitting safely for the 4,192 time in his career to displace Ty Cobb from page one of the record books. We cannot be entirely certain if this home white knit pullover saw action in the approach to that magical mark, or if Rose instead wore it as he extended past it to his final 4,256, but its intense relevance is assured in either regard. The light but definite wear strongly suggests at least a few numbers were added to the titanic tally in its presence. The retired number "14" appears to the right of the team logo patch over the heart, and again on verso where it dangles below the distinctive font that spells "Rose" across the shoulders. Proper "Wm. Goodman & Sons [size] 43" label is in tail. A perfect blue sharpie signature on the chest adds the last bit of appeal. Though Rose has been his own worst enemy when it comes to gaining admittance to Cooperstown, it seems inconceivable that he won't find his rightful place there eventually. Surely demand for his game worn equipment will experience a tremendous surge when this happens, far greater than those considerably less controversial inductees typically see. And even if he really never does make it, he's still one of the greatest to ever play the game, and nobody can take that away from him. SCD A8. LOA from Dan Knoll & Dave Bushing/ SCD Authentic.
