    Description

1984 Kirk Gibson Game Worn Detroit Tigers Jersey - World Series Season. Kirk Gibson thrived when the spotlight was its brightest. In both of his World Series appearances, Gibson seemed to come to the plate at the optimal time. Four years before he launched possibly the most famous home run in World Series history, he found himself in another clutch position. Nursing a 5-4 lead in Game 5 of the 1984 World Series, Gibson came to the plate to face future Hall of Fame flamethrower Goose Gossage. With Gibson having already homered in the game, most figured Gossage would give him a pass and take his chances on the next batter. Gossage relished the challenge and convinced Dick Williams to let him pitch to Gibson. The mustached pitcher told a teammate earlier that day "I own him." The second pitch was launched into the stands and the Tigers were on their way to a championship.

This "Wilson size 44" jersey was likely the jersey he wore when he hit one of the most iconic home runs in Tigers history. The white knit button-up was the second set from 1984. Good overall use is shown on the jersey with moderate fraying on the midnight navy piping. An Old English "D" emblem is affixed to the front while "Gibson 23" is formed on the reverse. The collar holds a period Wilson size tag and "7" inventory number. The unique tagging matches known exemplars from this time period. Of most importance is a swatch in the tail which reads "84 2," denoting year and set number. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
